YOR Perspective

Join us as we embrace Africa’s past, present, and future, creating connections that transcend borders and celebrate the continent’s global influence.

The Story of YorAfrica

YorAfrica (Year of Return Africa) was founded with the purpose of changing the narrative surrounding the African continent, particularly focusing on the return of the African diaspora to their ancestral roots. Initially launched as an Instagram page under the handle “@theyearofreturn2019,” our mission was to assist in showcasing Ghana’s Year of Return program and to highlight the opportunities for African descendants to connect with their heritage.

As the community grew, we realized the importance of extending our mission beyond one nation. In 2019, we rebranded to YorAfrica to reflect our broader commitment to all African nations, and our core belief that the return of Africans to the continent is more than just a single country’s journey—it’s a collective, continent-wide movement.

Youth of Return

Over the years, YorAfrica has supported numerous African-centered organizations, helped to develop emerging African influencers, and provided a platform for promoting African talent and entrepreneurship. Our initiatives have included support for the Awutu Winton Water Polo Club—the first water polo team in Africa—and we’ve been instrumental in promoting Morehouse College’s Africa Awareness Week Conference.

Additionally, we’ve worked to market local artisans to the African diaspora, bridging the gap between creators on the continent and global audiences.

Our collaborations extend to impactful NGOs like Catchitfromtheroots.org, an organization dedicated to providing free pads, sex education, and youth support in Ghana. We’ve helped elevate voices that are making a tangible impact, amplifying the efforts of those working toward social and economic progress in their communities.

Visit to Ghana

One of our proudest achievements is the creation of the Visit to Ghana the Motherland Facebook group, a private forum of over 37k members seeking knowledge and connection with Ghana. In 2024, we also partnered with the Royal Women’s Conference, which focused on the culture and importance of Queen Mothers, women’s rights, and networking within African communities.

Our Commitment to Solutions

At YorAfrica, our main objective has always been about understanding the pain and struggles we all face as people of the African diaspora, and turning that collective experience into actionable solutions. Our acronym, P.A.S.T. (Pain and Struggle Together), reflects our belief that only by facing our challenges together can we create lasting solutions to social ills. We are focused on investing in solutions—not in capitalizing on our shared pain.

Through the years, we’ve built a network of resources and supporters who are committed to funding and creating opportunities for tomorrow’s heroes. We believe that by working together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who return to Africa, as well as those who remain invested in the future of the continent.
